TRUST
As in the case of any
other organization, Prathista Seva Samithi (PSS) too has
the advantage of having committed founder members and
zeal to serve the poor in the Society. This led to
conducting several programmes which are basically
welfare in nature. The contributions from founder
members and the donations collected from the like minded
people were pooled and devoted to providing welfare
programmes like feeding the poor, supply of clothes,
providing food security measures etc. were initiated.
Thus, the beginning was made on the basic issue of food
security. As the founder members gained required
exposure and experience in this regard, more activities
on the lines of capacity building, leadership
development, health and hygiene programmes, sanitation
etc. were undertaken.
The philanthropic work
undertaken by the founder members has attracted the
attention of like-minded people and the encouragement
received from them resulted in forming an institution to
serve the poor in the society in a systematic manner and
also on the large scale. Thus, though Prathista Seva
Samithi has been in the service of poor in the society
for over three years yet it took the institution shape
in the year 2001 after duly registering it under the
Government Andhra Pradesh Act 35/2001 in the month of
October 2003. This has been the brief origin and
background of Prathista Seva Samithi (PSS).
Notwithstanding the initial problems, PSS has formulated
a clear Vision to place the society in the following
manner:
BACKGROUND
In the context of
development it is quite natural that several of the
geographical area concerned tends to register lesser
development due to natural and physical reasons. These
reasons may be derived out of geographical conditions,
social and cultural conditions, natural phenomena etc.
The Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh is one such
geographical area, which registered lesser development
and consequently registered as background area from the
planning Commission point of view. Historically the
region was, prior to the Independence , under the rule
of the Nizams. Further the region was devoid of
irrigation, transport, communication facilities etc. The
God of nature has also showed little mercy resulting in
lesser rainfall. All these factors have contributed to
the backwardness of the region. Consequently the
incidence of poverty was on higher side and general
awareness among the public was on the lower side. Thus
poverty on one side and lack of awareness on the other
side has forced most of people inhabiting in the area to
tread poverty-ridden life.
Though government agencies
have come forward for specific development activities
yet their impact was marginalized due to several factors
associated with social and geographical conditions. As
cited earlier lack of awareness among the general public
is often quoted as prime reason for lesser access to
development initiatives. Lack of structural arrangements
has also making the delivery of development activities
sponsored by the government agencies to reach lesser
number of people etc. Thus the situation in the district
and the region is on e such triple situation that the
delivery of development programmes could not able to
reach the targeted people due to critical gaps like
structural dimensions, lack of awareness among people
etc. this in background the Prathista Seva Samithi (PSS)
was formed a few years back to address the critical
needs in the realm of development initiatives for the
needy people in the society, especially in the region of
Telangana and other backward areas of Andhra Pradesh.
The conglomeration of
committed spirit, devotion to hard work, crystallized
vision and meaningful approach of several like minded
people resulted in establishing the present organization.
These like minded people were driven by the sorrow sight
of poverty, crisis and lacunae pertaining to development
initiatives ha sensitized the promoters of the
organization to provide critical service to the targeted
people an the area in a manner resulting in provoking
participatory an sustainable development initiatives.
This is how PSS was born a few years back. Though the
committed and the combined efforts of these people
through the organization were initiated from the year
2001 onwards yet a formal registration of the
organization was made only in the year 2003.
